Beauty products are a real (ruin-)budget. In addition to being overpriced, their composition is not necessarily very clear to the consumer. We can never repeat it enough: nothing better than natural and homemade beauty products .
From that side, the grandmothers know a ray. Who said grannies were old school? Their tips and recipes are natural , economical and often much more effective than a whole bunch of industrial products. So if you want to save money and finally know what you apply to your skin and hair, you can create your own beauty and care products . And if you have a small budget but you’re not a fan of homemade , come and check my article on the monthly beauty boxes for products at low prices. Let’s go for grandma’s beauty tips!
Grandma’s beauty tips for hair
Whether short or long, blond or brown, our hair is our number one asset. Just like our clothing style, they affirm our personality through different colors or hairstyles, so we must take care of them. The secret to beautiful hair is to take care of it regularly. But different factors affect them on a daily basis: pollution, unsuitable diet, sun… Here are some mask recipes to enhance your hair.
For dry hair , mix avocado, egg yolk and olive oil. Apply the mixture as a mask for 15 minutes before rinsing.
If you’re looking for an anti-dandruff remedy , try this: a few drops of lemon in plain yogurt. Apply it to your hair by massaging your scalp for 5 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and using your usual shampoo.
Little tip: think about doing a little cure with brewer’s yeast for one or two months a year to strengthen your hair .
Natural homemade wax recipe
No more wax strips that you buy, you can now make it yourself at home with only two ingredients! Economical and 100% natural, this recipe will reconcile you with waxing . Heat honey with lemon juice in a saucepan (about 2 tablespoons of honey for half a lemon). You just have to wait for the mixture to caramelize to give a thick but malleable texture and it’s ready! Wait a few minutes before using it so you don’t burn yourself
Hair beauty tips: castor oil
Castor oil is known for its restorative properties and for its effectiveness on hair growth. Whether it is to grow hair , eyelashes or beards, the results are visible after only a few weeks. Castor oil is used in the form of a cure for one to two months at the rate of approximately one day out of two. This allows you not to accustom the hair so as not to reduce the effect of the oil.
For the hair, castor oil is mixed with another oil (coconut for example) to benefit from all the benefits of the oils . Apply all over the hair and leave on for at least 2 hours, or even overnight if possible. In the morning, wash your hair normally with one or even two shampoos if the greasy effect persists.
For the beard, same process, apply well to the root of the hair and leave to act for 30 minutes before rinsing.
For eyelashes, add a few drops of oil to your mascara or directly use a tube of castor oil that you can find in pharmacies or on the internet.
Second life for the mascara tube
Mascara tubes tend to dry out quickly. Obviously it always happens at the wrong time, that is to say just before a restaurant meeting or an outing with friends. If you don’t have a spare tube don’t panic! Simply add a few drops of sweet almond oil to the tube and shake for a few seconds. This trick will help you out for a few days while you go buy a new mascara.
A beauty treatment for the face or hands
Known for its softening and cleansing properties, clay helps hydrate the skin . To make your own mask , just mix 1 tablespoon of green clay with water (you can also do it with rose or orange water to vary the pleasures!) until you obtain a creamy texture. Economical and natural , this ally for oily skin regulates sebum and cleanses the skin. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes maximum before rinsing.
You can also use this beauty recipe as a hair mask . Apply it for 20 minutes on the roots (not on the ends so as not to dry them out) before rinsing. Use once or twice a week (once as a face mask for oily skin ).
Thigh chafing tips
Already in the month of June, summer begins to point at the tip of its nose. And who says summer says barbecue, aperitif, cocktails and small outfits. But for some girls, the heat can quickly become a nightmare. If you also tend to rub your thighs when you wear a dress or skirt, this grandmother’s recipe is for you.
Start by infusing a bag of mint tea for 3 to 4 minutes in hot water. In a bowl, mix one tablespoon of lavender oil with aloe vera gel . Add a few spoonfuls of infused water until you get a fairly thick consistency. All you have to do is spread it on the inside of your thighs and you will be protected for the day!
And if you don’t have all the ingredients at home, simply use talc which will suck up the moisture present between your thighs. And yes girls, talc isn’t just for babies, you can also use it as a fashion & beauty tip!
